Jinx Robot End of Summer Update

Jinx end of summer update
-Where are we now and what do we do next ?

Jinx Main Board

I realized that the main board would be about 4 layers of very hard to construct printed circuit board. Then when you realize there is a error it could easily make the whole board useless, given you were [...]

Jinx Program Considerations

Now that I’ve moved into the software world a little bit there are some things that have become troublesome and need to be addressed. I dont want to forget them so i’m writing them down here.
1.) if you transmit and receive at the same it destroys both. Hopefully we can transmit a packet and [...]

H-Bridges whats the best option ?

Looking at the cost of power mosfets or bjts it dawned on me that its pretty expensive to make your own h-bridge. I had abandoned the ic h-bridge because they kept burning up on me and they were expensive. But if your transistors cost .50c each and you need 8 of them to make two [...]

Making my own h bridge from scavanged pieces

Looking all over the place I’ve found that power mosfets of the type that would be easy to use to make H bridges are pretty pricey, not quite as pricey as a H bridge IC but still about .50 cents a piece. I realized lots of things must have H bridges in them, pretty much [...]

Charging Batteries III & circuit revision

After hooking everything up manually I found I could actually get up to 1.2A flowing into the batteries. That would allow me a charge time of just a few hours.
Hooking up everything with the jinx mainboard and the power module did not yeild the same results. Since I’m charging with 12v and controlling the P [...]

Charging Batteries II (More Research)

Well I’ve studied a little more about this problem, one thing I should be using a “logic level” mosfet.
I have a few options, I can use a p mosfet or i can misuse a lm317 and regulate the current as described in the last post about battery charging.
Using a p mosfet if i have the [...]

Here are some pictures of jinx, you cant see much from the pictures since the components are smd. Anywho you get the jist.

This first picture shows the entire unit so far. I have had it running like this a few times, it runs through the grass in my yard pretty well but sometimes the grass [...]

Charging batteries I (NI-MH)

In the power module (that i deleted by accident, get from us puter!) the “charge” connection is connected to the positive battery terminal via a P channel mosfet. When I fully charged the battery pack (2 at a time) using my sony battery charger the overall voltage of the pack was 8.08v, so thats 8.08v/ [...]

After battling with these modules for a few days (after burning up my first pair) I have finally gotten them to work. There is very little info out there on how they actually work so I’ll try and sum it all up here, I hope it helps someone.

Moving along on the body of JINX

I printed out the bluprints and cut the pieces today for the body. I found the very big or very small plexiglass cuts are the hardest but overall its pretty easy. I printed out one of the bluprints wrong and made the sides about 15mm too small which sucks but oh well. I hope I’ll [...]
